Moms, Birthdays, & Cat Eyes, oh my!

Whatta weekend...

I spent a beautiful, "makeup-free", Friday & Saturday at the beach with my favorite Boy... and of course Sunday was Mother's Day!!!
These beautiful women are some of the most important ladies of my life... they have taught me to feel beautiful since the moment I was born... and as you can see (if I may say so myself), the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, when it comes to beauty in our family... (too much?)
My momma is the one who has shown me that being beautiful comes from your heart, mind, and especially your soul... being a good person pours out of your pores (pun intended!)... So let that beauty shine!!!

Let's do some Birthday Girl Makeup...

So my biggest hurdle in my makeup world has always been the upper lid eyeliner... the cat-eye if you will...
I can do my right eye beautifully 99% of the time- and the left eye gets the other 1%... I just can never get that perfect mirror image...BUT... alas, on my 28th birthday, I couldn't ask for a closer match, lol!

I used an old MAC holiday palette... always remember this basic, if you wanna get fancy... light-dark-light... light on the brow bone, dark in or above crease, light on the lid!

Happy Birthday Week to me- Alexis

Just One of Those Days...

Did you ever have one of those days, that makeup didn't matter? Today's one of those days for me...
I'm at the family beach apartment with my Boy, just catching up with life, love, and fun!

Sometimes the makeup and fashion industry can be really destructive, and I'm not ok with that!
Girls are brought up with these preconceived notions that you are not beautiful unless something is added to enhance your appearance... it saddens me and scares me... what do my own future daughters have to look forward to? Why is it so hard to teach a child that all women are beautiful?
I read this article the other day: Kim Kardashian latest Photoshop Victim... What?!?!? This woman is BEAUTIFUL... I don't know about you, but I wouldn't mind looking like her in the "before" picture! Why do we do it? Who made the rules that every girl should strive to look a certain way? Girls are God's gift to this world... we bare children!!! Without us there would be no world... So start making us feel good, people!
And sometimes no matter how much beauty you add, there's still someone who thinks you're more beautiful without!

Imagine your Beautiful- Alexis

Children & Theatre!

These are a few of my favorite things...

As far back as I can remember I've been a very maternal human being... I guess it's good that I am a woman :)
Working with children brings such joy, knowledge, and above all- Full out entertainment!!! LOL!
Some have called me the "Drama-Nazi", others a "Theatre-Mom"... whatever it is, when the two are combined I become one mean Mamma-Jamma Children's Theater Director!!!

This week, at work, I am turning my 4th graders into Musical Theater Actors for their talent show!
Way fun and always way too stressful... but the outcome always beyond worth it.

Theatre gives so much freedom to a regular gal like me... if you know me, you know I'm shy and reserved (sometimes anyway, if I don't know you well)... When I was acting I could completely not be me... transform myself to a character, impress people, have people talking about me, be the funny one, be the talented one... at least that's what the mind of a teen-aged me thought! Theatre is not for everyone, but sometimes all it takes is one curtain call (whether it's you bowing or actors at the end of a show bowing)- and you're hooked!
Now, imagine the feeling for me of taking a "Makeup for the Stage" class in college... like a melting pot of talent and obsession for me (I tend to obsess a lot)!
Since then, any opportunity I get, to transform someones appearance to a fiction form, I take it!!!

I highly recommend trying to go out there and do something new... combine that new thing with something old... you really never know what concoction you may make... you may even create a whole new "thing"! With that being said, enjoy my stew of makeup pictures from various playful events in my life!

Makeup by The Girl... That's me!

Well, here I go starting something once again, that I didn't finish last time...

This is, hopefully, my Blog... Those of you who know me, understand that I truly can hold the title: "Jack of All Trades"!

Teaching, Sign Language Interpreting, Painting, Crafting, Singing, Dancing, Makeup-ing, and Couch Potato-ing... you name it, I've studied or done it! Now, what I know is- I am definitely not an expert at any one of them... but with this blog I want to show you my skills and how I plan on mastering them.

That brings me to makeup... I LOVE IT!!! I am not what you'd call a "girly-girl"... but when it comes to gook, glitter and shine all over my face, count me in.  I discovered my love for it fairly young, watching my mom put on an excessive amount of blush and eyeliner in the late 80's, early 90's... since then it's love! I've bought books and watched videos and found one of the best makeup "guru's" in Kandee Johnson... but it's not enough for me to play with my own face... I definitely want more... so occasionally I slather makeup on small children and force loved ones to wear false eyelashes and sparkle- What can I say? I'm a makeup artist at heart, or at the very least, a makeup amateur.

So for our first blog entry's climax and the beginning of my makeup portfolio, I present several pictures of "amateur" makeup I have done before today...

Enjoy & Imagine- Alexis
